Didcot Methodist Church is located in the town centre. The church hosts two Sunday services with an additional early morning communion on a periodic basis. A house group has grown up in recent years to complement the existing Guild and Women’s Fellowship. Lunchbreak provides a weekly meeting place for people in Didcot.
In addition to being part of the larger Christian community here as part of Churches Together, Didcot Methodist Church is part of the wider Methodist Church at both local and national level. Locally we are linked to other Methodist Churches in the Wantage and Abingdon Circuit, including those in the towns of Wantage, Wallingford and Abingdon, as well as many villages. The circuit is in turn part of the Oxford and Leicester district. The circuit has five ministers, each responsible for a group of churches. Our own minister also has responsibility for Milton, Blewbury and Upton Methodist Churches.
Sunday worship in Methodist churches may be led, not only by a Minister, but also by a Local Preacher. Local Preachers are lay people from church congregations, who have trained as preachers, but who do not have full ministerial training. There are 27 active Local Preachers in our circuit at the current time.
Any Minister or Local Preacher may find themselves conducting worship in any of the churches in the circuit. This gives extra variety to our services.
In October 2008, Didcot Church Council approved the suggestion that we take part in the Eco-Congregation programme. Eco-Congregation is an ecumenical programme helping churches make the link between environmental issues and Christian faith, and respond in practical action in the church, in the lives of individuals, and in the local and global community. In March 2009, following a ‘church checkup’ to identify our priorities for action, we officially applied to join the programme. Didcot Methodist Church achieved Eco-Congregation status in 2010. The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.
Sunday services are at 10:30am and 6:30pm.
